About
We think most firms are solving this the wrong way round
The usual response to staff using AI with confidential material is a policy telling them to stop. We think the better response is to give them something they are allowed to use.
Where this came from
OnPrem came out of a pattern we kept noticing in conversations with professional firms around Perth. Almost every one had the same two facts sitting side by side: no approved AI tool, and a strong suspicion that staff were using one anyway.
The reaction was usually a policy. Sometimes training. Occasionally an enterprise subscription that a third of the firm never logged into. None of it addressed the actual mechanism, which is that a free tool sitting on a phone will beat a compliant tool behind a login screen every time somebody is tired and behind.
The technology to run capable AI locally became practical relatively recently. Models that once required a data centre now run on a machine that fits on a shelf. That changed the available options, and most firms have not caught up to it yet.
How we work
We assess, scope, build, install and support. We are not a software company and we are not reselling a subscription — we put a system in your building and we look after it.
What we try to do differently is tell you when the answer is no. There is a version of this business that sells hardware to everyone who enquires. It generates a lot of first sales, a lot of underused equipment, and no referrals. We would rather have the conversation where we say a policy and a business subscription would serve you better, and be the people you call in two years when that stops being true.
What we will not do
- Claim this makes you compliant. It removes one specific risk. Your other obligations are unchanged, and we will say so in writing.
- Quote a speed without naming the model. Performance varies enormously by model architecture. A single throughput number with no context is marketing, not information.
- Pretend local matches frontier models at everything. It does not. For most professional work the difference rarely decides the outcome — but for some work it does, and you deserve to know which is which before you commit.
- Publish a price with no scope. A number without a specification tells you nothing and is designed to get you on the phone. You will get a fixed figure once we understand what you actually need.
Where we are
Perth, Western Australia. WA firms get the most direct service, and that is deliberate — we would rather support a smaller area properly than claim national coverage we cannot deliver. If you are elsewhere in Australia, get in touch and we will tell you honestly what we can do well from here.
Not sure whether you have a problem?
Most firms do not know how much confidential material is already leaving the building. A short conversation will tell you.
